RESEARCH
At NFSGA, we know that raising awareness is not enough. Many people talk about the problem and never offer solutions. We provide ways for individuals, groups and organizations to engage directly on the issue. The act could be assisting us with research, visiting members of congress in your district or connecting with an agency that serves victims to volunteer. We know that it takes all of us to defeat human trafficking.
Training - for corporate entities, healthcare professionals, law enforcement, educators and others is a priority for NFSGA. We want to make sure that everyone engaged in the fight against human trafficking is fully prepared to provide prevention, intervention, justice and aftercare for those who would both seek to enslave others and those who find themselves victims of modern-day slavery. Please contact us to speak to organize training for your organization/agency.
ADVOCACY
We conduct primary research and investigation into the pathways of human trafficking in the state. We work closely with service providers and law enforcement to document cases, provide strategic intelligence and identify critical trends in the realm of involuntary servitude. This research has not only resulted in the Georgia Human Trafficking Operations Report (GAHTOR), but also has resulted in case leads being turned over to local and federal law enforcement.
While we are a non-profit organization with only limited ability to engage in advocacy work (lobbying) at the state and federal level, we dedicate a small portion of our time each year to either leading or assisting in advocacy efforts to promote smarter laws and effective governance. We help develop and promote legislation that serves victims and enhances the ability to prosecute traffickers. Recent activities in this area have included the White Rose Campaign (led by Wellspring Living) at the state capitol; our legal intern testifying before the legislature on a bill that would protect minors, and in-district visits to members of Congress not to lobby but to drop off educational materials about human trafficking in the state of Georgia.
